The Angling School

John Brooks

John is a retired science and special needs teacher who has worked with children in main stream and residential settings as well as with adults with additional needs. He now delivers training for his own company as well as for other organisations, such as the Workers’ Educational Association (WEA), sailing schools, UNISON and STEM Days in schools for the Smallpiece Trust.

Angling-School CIC

In 2006 John became a level 2 sea angling coach and a coarse (freshwater) coach in 2012. He ran a regular sea angling club in a large secondary school for 7 years until he retired and has coached adults with additional needs as well. Under the auspices of Dreamstore he has organised coaching academies to enable anglers to become Level 2 Angling Coaches. Currently he is Junior Leader of Mounts Bay Angling Society. Angling-School CIC was incorporated as a community interest company in 2013.

First Aid in Focus

This is the First Aid Training Arm of Angling-School CIC. In 20012 John became a Community First Responder (CFR) with the Ambulance Service and a first aid trainer in 2013. As a CFR he brings operational experience based on current guidelines (he has to requalify every 6 months with the ambulance service) to his training and has actually done in real terms what he teaches. John also provides first aid cover at events.

As well as the minimum First Aid at Work (FAW) John has continued his CPD so that it now includes: First Person Scene (FPOS) and First Response in Emergency Care (FREC) Levels 3 & 4. He is also accredited to deliver RYA and the MCA STCW courses.
